How a friend learned the value of insurance the hard way

I never did think of insurance to be something of a life saver until I heard my friend’s story.          I see them there in my desk, all the policies and brochures my agent updates us with, I think it’s a thriving industry and now when I come to think about it, because of all good reason. My friend had told me that when her father died, she was only 15 years old and that their youngest brother was only 7. Her elder sister was about to go to college when their father died of a sudden heart attack, doing nothing strenuous really. He was just drinking his morning coffee when he got a stroke and the next thing they knew, he was dead. Of course the pain and despair of losing a loved one, so much a father can never be replaced by anything. But when her mother filled for claim for his father’s life insurance policy, the money that they received from the claim helped them so much on making the transition. That widow’s fund was used to set them up straight with a small family business and eventually help to send her sister to college. That was more that 20 years ago, but my friend tells me that story as if it were yesterday.

No wonder she one of the top producers for a big insurance company, she just simply tells her story and her clients get touched and buys a policy. Who needs those technical financial needs analysis computation, her real life story is a closer any where, any time.

For such a firm believer of the value of insurance, she even educated me about getting mobile phone insurance for my new Apple iPhone, and even though she doesn’t sell phone insurance policies, I thought about what she said and considered it an affordable investment. Mobile insurance was probably the last thing I might have thought about considering my hectic week. But as I look at my office window, seeing all those busy people in downtown, I just thought of something quite intriguing, and that is life does just flash right in front of us. One day you’re on top of things, maybe tomorrow you’re a gonner, and hearing and knowing my friends story made me look at things differently. That I am responsible for my family and I would not make them suffer because of my inactions. So getting those insurance policies before because it’s a company requirement is so different when you get one because of love for the ones you hold dear.
